The Black Commentator- Home – Issue 99
Found a new site for Black folks. After just a cursory glance, it looks rather militant. I’ll give it a longer look over the next few days.

One World Watch

It is at this point that the Dream Period ended, definitively, for Black America. There will be no return in the foreseeable future to the times of robust and general domestic growth. Instead, the era of American decline is well underway, and is likely to be punctuated by abrupt, dramatic, and extremely dangerous social dislocations, during which we will learn the fuller meaning of living “in the belly of the beast.

Is it really that bad out there?

or “How We All Look Alike”
Wired 4.10: Life Behind the Screen: “I have long suspected that the vaunted ‘freedom’ to shed the markers of race and gender on the Internet is illusory, and that it masks a more disturbing phenomenon – the whitenizing of cyberspace. “

Still Unemployed

July 7, 2004

As you may or may not know, I have become a “man of leisure“. Basically, I got laid off. I still have my CompUSA teaching gig, but it ain’t bringing in the big bucks. Alison, my former boss at CompUSA is still talking about starting her own teaching center, but somehow I don’t think she is going to follow through.
She keeps pushing the dates back further and further. I have my fingers crossed, though.
Everybody wants computer training but nobody wants to pay. I recently offered to tutor a guy in his home. Trust me, he needs tutoring. However, $70/hour was too much for his wallet. Well, being a reasonable man, I lowered my fee to $50/hour. Apparently, he was only willing to pay $30/hour. Sorry, I can’t go that low.
I’ve got my resume out there, but no nibbles as yet.

About That Wedding…

July 7, 2004

Yes folks, it is still on (I told ya so). Anyway, Mitsy finally got started on the center-pieces. Our theme is going to be centered around sunflowers.
She is making the tags using her Quickutz personal die cutting system. By the way, if you want to do some Christmas shopping early, just about anything on that page will do for a gift!
We also got some oil lanterns from Williams-Sonoma. They were a steal! Once she is done decorating them, they will be priceless. We are also designing our own invitations.
I tell ya, she is getting orders from people who are willing to pay for her arts & crafts.
