I was digging around in the guts of my Mepis Linux distro when I ran across this:

iwlist – Linux Command – Unix Command

This does a much better job of scanning wireless networks (and returning meaningful results) than does kwifimanager.

Scanning for wireless networks with kwifimanager has always gotten me nothing more than “Hidden Network”.

Using “iwlist wlan0 scanning” actually yields the name of wireless networks that I can hop on to.
